Welcome to the research pages of The Humanistic Management Network
Broadly defined, all research which focuses on the improvement of the human condition is humanistic research. Humanistic Management Research (HMR) distinguishes itself by focusing on the field of business and economics as primary drivers of society. HMR asks questions such as what business practices are good for human beings overall, what organizational design, business strategy and leadership style lead to human thriving and simultaneously increase mental, physical, social, and financial well-being. HMR positions itself in stark contrast to traditional management research (economistic management research), which asks the question of how businesses can become more profitable. Consequently economistic research often views human beings as a mere means for increasing profitability.
The Humanistic Management Network aims to promote humanistic management research and present actionable research to academic and practitioner audiences. We do so by:
1. Combining Existing Humanistic Research Across Disciplines
Many research disciplines (such as anthropology, biology, evolutionary psychology, positive psychology) present knowledge that is crucial to answering questions such as: what is human happiness and how can it be achieved sustainably? Other disciplines (such as sociology, management studies) provide insight into how organizations are shaped and contribute to the best possible human thriving. Even other disciplines look at the systemic environment needed for a human betterment (e.g. philosophy, ethics, political science, and economics). At The Humanistic Management Network we bring these different contributions together to promote a human centered transition of capitalism.
2. Conducting Humanistic Management Research Together with our Partners
The field for humanistic management research is wide and many questions need to be tackled with more rigor. Therefore we conduct our own research and reach out for partners to accelerate the knowledge generation.
